Costume = Homemade!

The Boy has a knack for coming up with the most obscure characters for Halloween. One year he was Oni Link, not regular Link from the Legend of Zelda, Oni Link... Google it. Another year he wanted to be Arthus the Lich King from World of Warcraft. This was before the game actually came out so reference photos were sketchy. Last year was Altaiir from Assassin's Creed. That was fun to do because of all the leather work.

This year he wanted to be Joshua, an obscure character from a Nintendo game called Fire Emblem. So I hauled out the sewing machine and made this.
Total cost = $24 bucks. Photo = priceless.

What was your favorite costume when you were a kid?

Marilyn.

  2. Thanks, Billy. It was lots of fun to do. Ronn helped with the ironing on the trim which made the sewing go faster.

  3. You are a marvel- with paper AND cloth! And in a very limited time-wow!
    Costumes as a child were very limited in my family. We could either go as a hobo- basically rubbing pumpkin soot on our faces, tying a handkerchief around our necks and wearing old clothes and a broken down hat- or a princess- wearing an old prom dress that was hemmed up for short legged children. I usually ended up as the hobo. :)

  4. HeidiAnnie = that is awesome! I was fascinated by the whole stuff tied up in a bandana on a stick thing. Do people still dress up like hobos?

    I made a lot of strange costumes once I hit junior high. When I was twelve I was the "Big Fig Newton".

  5. Isn't costumes the only reason anyone has a sewing machine at all? Great job. Do you guys ever do the conventions? Diana made Twilight Princess Link last year (Connor was Toon Link - I made that one) and this year she was Edward Elric from FMA. Trevor hopes to sew himself the Jin Kisaragi costume for next year's Kumiricon in Portland. W00t!

    Do have a photo of the Arthus costume? Love to see it :)

  6. Tina, I can see doing conventions. We have an anime one in Anaheim that sounds like fun and we always go to the San Diego Comic Con.

    I don't have any decent pictures of Arthus but as I recall it involved a LOT of skulls. :-)
