Pencils

For some reason I was going to write this epic blog post this morning, telling you about everything that is going on in my life. I was going to tell you about my adventures taking care of my mom who has short term memory loss, my frustrations with drawing and trying to get things to look like the way I see them in my head, writing stories, getting rain after a year long drought, working on books for months and years and finally finishing some of them, but not all...

But I have a cold, and feel deflated, like an old inner tube.

So instead I tell you about how how every morning  I sharpen a handful of pencils and place them on the left side of the desk and by midnight they are all dull and in a row on the right side of the desk waiting to be sharpened again.

  2. Marilyn- it is so easy to lose perspective when you feel like crap.
And look at all you do- even with the burdens you carry.
I love the pencils ready for duty and then used up- ready to be sharpened for yet another day's work- great analogy.
Praying for a surcease of deflation.

  4. You are such a wonderful human. An artist is both easily inspired and easily deflated by the same keen observational powers. I recharge with something like sorting or polishing to sooth my mind and assuage productivity guilt! You are way more productive and your tiny sketchbooks are treasures.Best wishes.

    1. Joanne, thank you for your kind words. I took your advice and sorted through a stack of naggy papers that was taking up not only the corner of my desk but lots of brain bandwidth. Big hugs,

      Marilyn.

  6. Please don't feel down! You have no idea what an inspiration you are! Believe me when I say that even though we do not know eachother personally your work, your blogs, your toys, all of what you are sharing with the world has given me so much and helped me to believe in myself and my creative work more. This might sound cheesy but honestly you are a wonderful human being and I always love reading your posts on Facebook and seeing your designs! It is amazing that we are allowed to do what we are doing. Thank you for being you!
