What are your priorities?

How was your first week of the new year? So far so good here, nothing surprising has happened yet. I'm trying to acquire a few new good habits like drinking more water and reading more books. This year's had more "a dip the toe into the water" sort of start. I have piles upon stacks of things I need/must/want to do but what should I do? What is going to be best for me, my family and my career? Oh, ponder, ponder, ponder...

On thing that helped with all this ponderage, was to do a ten minute list. It's easy, get a piece a paper and for ten minutes write down all your possibilities and choices. My list had everything on it from "finish the books I'm working on", to "try out new recipes." Then take a highlighter and make the five or so things that are the most important. For me, making good books and taking care of my family are my highest priorities.  I also have a bunch o paper toys that I'd like to make. I'd also like to do a half a million other things too but I need to pick and choose.

How about you? What are your priorities? What new things would you like to learn this year?

Let's get crackin'!

Yet there will stretch out before you an ever-lengthening, ever-ascending, ever-improving path.

only adds to the joy and glory of the climb.~ Sir Winston Churchill

  1. Having too many fun things to choose from is a good problem to have! I like your strategy of keeping the current list small. I made the mistake of being too ambitious in my list and already I'm behind! At least good things are keeping me from doing other good things!

One thing I'm working on is a little book/'zine/comic book sort of thing. I can't wait to show you!

  2. This year appears to so far be my year for getting our home into shape. We've hung art work, built shelves, I recently emptied 30 boxes, cleared some space in the garage, I've hammered the guest room into useable shape, and I am determined to keep the energy going.

  3. It's been a year and a half now since Algis Budrys, my agent, shuffled off this mortal coil, so I'm gonna set about seriously trying to snare another agent this year. And by "seriously," I of course mean entering the first 500 words of Rat's Reputation in this contest - http://kidlit.com/kidlit-contest/

Reading about the agent sponsoring the contest makes me think I haven't got a chance, but hey it's a start!

  4. Even though I'm a great-granny to two great-grandsons, I enjoy making some of your toys for them. I'm just an overgrown kid!!!
